“Speed-Line-Learning” (SLL) is a method of learning that enables you to:
- learn material faster
- retain what you learned longer
- create new ideas with it
A simple FLASHLIGHT is used to explain how you can learn better. There are four basic parts of the flashlight. They are the batteries, the casing, the bulb and the lens.
And there are four basic words to learning. They are knowledge, understanding, wisdom and vision.
The illustration to the right of this page shows where the four words of learning (knowledge, understanding, wisdom and vision) relate to the flashlight.
The BATTERIES of the flashlight represent KNOWLEDGE. Knowledge consists of the facts. Facts are the names, dates, places and ideas of any given story or article. SLL shows you a method that enables you to keep those facts (knowledge) in your mind for a longer period of time — like having long lasting batteries.
Once you gained the facts (names, dates, places and ideas) about anything in your mind, you begin to have a better UNDERSTANDING of what you are trying to learn. The CASING of the flashlight represents UNDERSTANDING. Understanding means you comprehend or mentally grasp hold of any newly learned material.
The next part of the flashlight is the BULB. The BULB represents WISDOM. Wisdom means to be able to judge or determine (with the newly learned material) as to whether something is right or wrong … true or false. This is where SLL instills Judeo/Christian ethics in the mind of the student. For it is imperative that one always tries to judge with “truth.” If one judges with half-truths or false doctrines, his VISION or capacity to see ahead or create becomes vague and unclear.
