He graduated from the University of Detroit in 1964. He moved to Los Angeles, California, in 1970 with his 3-year old son, Tim, after a contentious legal dispute involving a custody suit, and raised him there. After retiring from General Motors Acceptance Corporation in 2000, after 35 years of service, he began to follow his now married son and his son\u2019s family from Los Angeles to San Francisco to Vancouver, Canada, and then back down to Portland, Oregon, as his son advanced at his job at Enterprise Rent-A-Car.
