“For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat” (Heb. 5:12).
God had dealt with me for years out of Hebrews 5:12 concerning spiritual maturity and going from milk to strong meat. This started during a twenty-one day-and-night fast while praying and continued as I transitioned to a consecrated lifestyle. Overeating dulls your senses. I learned through experience that a life of consecration helped sharpen my ears to hear God’s voice more clearly. When my hearing improved, prayer became more pleasurable. The more I communed with God in prayer, the more I could hear Him give me a greater understanding of the scriptures.
Some babes in Christ, regardless of their natural age, run around seeking a word from God via His prophets. However, what happens if the prophet is off or prophesying out of their own heart? What happens when the prophet is constantly bombarded with calls from people for a personal word from the Lord? In the natural, as children mature, they don’t speak to their parents via their older siblings. God, our Heavenly Father, always intended to have a personal relationship with each one of His children. Unfortunately, many shortchange themselves when they assume it is too difficult to hear God. The consequence is prolonged spiritual immaturity. They limit their relationship with God to asking Him for things and following rules. Remember, God said that man would not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds out of His mouth. Continued spiritual immaturity affects the quality of our lives.
I pray that this book inspires all that read it to cultivate their relationship with God so that they recognize God’s voice and come to an understanding of the principles of the oracles of God.
